Lookout tower Krásno
A few kilometres from the village of Krásno, in the middle of the Slavkov Forest, stands one of the most remarkable lookout towers in the country. The unique shape of the twenty-five-metre tower, whose spiral staircase winds unusually around the outer perimeter, may remind you of the Babylonian ziggurat.
The construction of the tower was stimulated by the economic crisis in the 1930s. The citizens of Krásno wanted to prevent unemployment, so they decided to build a lookout tower at the top of a rocky slope 777 metres above sea level, from where they could get a better view of the romantic surroundings of the Slavkovský Forest. In 1934 the tower was inaugurated and named after the Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler. Even today it is still sometimes called Hitler Tower.
